France Bleg

We’re headed to France to see Middle Guy over the holidays – we’re going to be in Paris for a week, then probably travel for a week…at the worst, most expensive time of the year.

Any great tips on small, nice hotels in Paris? Any good travel agents out there? Anyone with an apartment they would rent for a week to TG, Little Guy, and me?

  1. Honestly my second best hotel experience in Paris was at a Marriot out by the airport.

My best was at the Sheraton inside the airport.

Do you sense a pattern here?

  2. Pick up a copy of the “Let’s Go!” guide to Paris. It’s written for less than affluent students in mind, but I think it’s a good guide to hotels, restaurants and the sights for any one on a budget.

  3. Hello,

What you might try is the Hotel Ibis chain. I believe it is loosely affiliated with the Motel 6 chain in the U.S.

When I took my wife to Europe in 1999 we discovered this chain quite by accident. They were moderately priced, clean, and friendly. They were also very happy to speak to us in English. When my wife had problems with morning sickness, the staff at one of the hotels went out of their way to help us. I cannot recommend them highly enough. As a plus, it seemed like a lot of their hotels were near train stations, which made them very convenient for us.

Best of luck on your trip!

  4. A “nice small hotel” in Paris? Try the Victoria Palace – right off the rue de Rennes on the Left Bank, walking distance to Montparnasse, small, quite French (and they’ve converted their phone cabine to an Internet booth: just beware of the French keyboard: it can be deadly).

  6. check out Paris Sleeps–we’ve used them from time to time, and they’re great. They’re little (or big) flats, not a hotel. You can pick your neighborhood, and it also means you can shop for food at the great markets that abound there, take it home and cook it! Or not! It’s run by an American expat. here’s the link:
