{"id":1113,"date":"2006-06-10T00:15:04","date_gmt":"2006-06-10T00:15:04","guid":{"rendered":"0"},"modified":"2006-09-28T12:09:47","modified_gmt":"2006-09-28T12:09:47","slug":"starring_the_sm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/marcdanziger.com\/?p=1113","title":{"rendered":"Starring the Smug, Bisexual, Hybrid with The Automatic Transgressiveness &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sadly, the new film &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&#038;ct=res&#038;cd=1&#038;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.apple.com%2Ftrailers%2Fdisney%2Fcars%2F&#038;ei=xQCKROrHKbK6iwG0yOjKCw&#038;sig2=M0-H6kSOLCiyWcH8I1HiiA\" target=\"browser\">Cars<\/a>&#8221; doesn&#8217;t, and that whiff of patriarchy and Castrol Type R has sent NY Times movie reviewer Manohla Dargis <a href=\"http:\/\/movies2.nytimes.com\/2006\/06\/09\/movies\/09cars.html?8dpc\" target=\"browser\">careening &#8217;round the bend in writing her review<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>To watch McQueen and the other cars motor along the film&#8217;s highways and byways without running into or over a single creature is to realize that, in his cheerful way, Mr. Lasseter has done Mr. Cameron one better: instead of blowing the living world into smithereens, these machines have just gassed it with carbon monoxide.<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\nEven stranger, the film turns Detroit&#8217;s paving over of America into an occasion for some nostalgic historical revisionism. Surreal isn&#8217;t the word.<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;Cars&#8221; is rated G (General audiences). Everything is clean but the fossil fuel.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Read the whole thing, it&#8217;s charming in it&#8217;s West Hollywood\/Manhattan insularity.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, it&#8217;s too bad Manohla didn&#8217;t study her urban history better; in the idyllic cities she so obviously misses, the biggest hazard to human health was the tons of horseshit that were left in the streets.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll leave the snarky comment to the readers&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NY Times Reviewer Manohla Dargis didn&#8217;t like &#8220;Cars&#8221; &#8211; because it was about &#8211; cars.
