{"id":1651,"date":"2008-02-20T15:13:46","date_gmt":"2008-02-20T15:13:46","guid":{"rendered":"0"},"modified":"2008-02-20T15:16:59","modified_gmt":"2008-02-20T15:16:59","slug":"another_moral_h","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/marcdanziger.com\/?p=1651","title":{"rendered":"Another Moral Heavyweight Steps In"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brian Leiter, from the cushy chair he occupies at UT Austin, <a href=\"http:\/\/leiterreports.typepad.com\/blog\/2008\/02\/bertram-on-cast.html\" target=\"browser\">weighs in<\/a> to defend Bertram&#8217;s air kiss to Castro:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>Political philosopher Chris Bertram (Bristol) offers some sensible <a href=\"http:\/\/crookedtimber.org\/2008\/02\/19\/castro-retires\/\" target=\"browser\">observations about Cuba on the occasion of Castro&#8217;s retirement<\/a>, observations that wouldn&#8217;t be remotely controversial in most of the world.  But since Professor Bertram&#8217;s blog also interacts, in some measure, with the right-wing American blogosphere, the reactions from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.windsofchange.net\/archives\/res_ipsa_loquitur.php\" target=\"browser\">undereducated and suitably indoctrinated<\/a> has been predictable.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Golly, I&#8217;m sure feeling bad about being edukated by people like Wolin, Schaar and Rittel &#8211; whose books Leiter isn&#8217;t fit to dust. Because as much as they maintained radical views of the American project, they had a very strong sense of what they believed in and who they were. As opposed to simply defining themselves as a teenager does by who they are not.<\/p>\n<p>Leiter isn&#8217;t brave enough to have have comments, but here&#8217;s what I would have asked him:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>Exactly what do you object to when I say &#8220;If the price of universal literacy is prison camps for writers, count me out&#8221;?<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Brian Leiter defends Bertram&#8217;s air-kiss to Castro.
