{"id":1932,"date":"2008-10-21T06:30:16","date_gmt":"2008-10-21T06:30:16","guid":{"rendered":"0"},"modified":"2008-10-21T06:34:06","modified_gmt":"2008-10-21T06:34:06","slug":"secretary_bowen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/marcdanziger.com\/?p=1932","title":{"rendered":"Secretary Bowen On The GOP Fraud Arrest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the wake of the GOP registration fraud arrest, a lot of Republicans are finger-waving at California Secretary of State Bowen and claiming that (as a Democrat) she&#8217;s being partisan in her investigation (remember, the local prosecutor has to decide to prosecute). Today, she challenged those claims.<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<object width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/ffXhvGc9JoE&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/ffXhvGc9JoE&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><\/embed><\/object><br \/>\n<\/center><br \/>\nHere&#8217;s what she said (h\/t <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politickerca.com\/benvandermeer\/2811\/bowen-no-party-politics-voter-fraud-investigations\" target=\"browser\">PolitickerCA<\/a>):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>Bowen, speaking at a &#8220;drive-thru registration&#8221; event on the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 4 election, said she&#8217;d investigate Mother Teresa if there was reason to think the late Nobel Peace Prize winner was engaged in voter fraud.<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;If a complaint is brought against any party, any individual, my office will investigate,&#8221; Bowen said.<\/p>\n<p>\nShe also pointed out that in the case of Marc Anthony Jacoby, the decision to arrest and charge him with twice giving an address he didn&#8217;t live at on his own voter registration form was up to local law enforcement and the district attorney in Los Angeles County &#8211; a Republican.<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;I would&#8217;ve had to have had a lot of corroboration from a lot of people with no partisan agenda,&#8221; said Bowen, a Democrat elected to her current office in 2006.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Disclosure: I know and trust Secretary Bowen. <\/p>\n<p>At the same time this whole issue makes me itch a little.
