\nIn Southern CA, it was LA and Imperial for Davis. That was it.
\nAll<\/u> the commuter ring counties, all the places where the blue and pink collar workers who are getting screwed by GOP tax and labor policies?? They went for Simon.

\nNixon\u0092s political masterstroke was to have split the rank-and-file union members off from the union leadership, using race and culture as a lever. A lot has been done to try and bridge that split, but it\u0092s still wide and deep.
\nNow on the face of it, it doesn’t make a lot of sense for the union folks to go GOP. They are facing huge structural economic problems, and it may not look that way from where you and I live\u0085but I\u0092ll tell you that the crisis of the middle manager forced to \u0091downsize\u0092 his lifestyle isn\u0092t anything compared to the crisis of the help-desk worker whose job is going to Ireland or the machinist who can\u0092t afford to send his kid to U.C.
\nSo while the culture clash is there\u0085think ice sculptures and SkyBoxes\u0085there are real issues there too.
\nAnd I\u0092m staying the hell out of the Burton\/Acidman fight. But you can\u0092t paper over the \u0091clash of cultures\u0092 we have within our country with that one.
