As we should, we recoil from the rage and inhumanity of the actions that led to them, and try to figure out how to respond. On one of my email lists, the discussion is between those who want to respond with massive destruction and those who &#8211; equally hopeless about the future of Iraq &#8211; want to simply leave.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll offer the photo linked <a href=\"http:\/\/windsofchange.net\/archives\/Leo Frank.php\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/windsofchange.net\/archives\/Leo Frank.php','popup','width=233,height=361,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\">here<\/a> (note that it is slightly, but not horribly, graphic) as evidence why we shouldn&#8217;t do either.Note the dateline: Marietta, GA, 1915. That&#8217;s where Leo Frank was brutally lynched.<\/p>\n<p>In case you think those horrors are in our distant past, I&#8217;ll suggest that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.core-online.org\/history\/chaney.htm\" target=\"browser\">Andrew Goodman, James Chaney and Michael Schwerner<\/a> would probably feel differently &#8211; if they were alive.<\/p>\n<p>While some might disagree, I think I can safely say that the American South is, today, civilized.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The pictures and story from Falluja are horrible.
