I May Wind Up Eating Some Crow On This&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve argued for a while that Iran&#8217;s efforts to build nuclear weapons are almost certainly ongoing, but that we had a reasonably long runway before the threat became &#8211; wait for it &#8211; imminent.<\/p>\n<p>That <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20060512\/ap_on_re_mi_ea\/nuclear_agency_iran\" target=\"browser\">may not be the case<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>The U.N. atomic agency found traces of highly enriched uranium on equipment from an Iranian site linked to the country&#8217;s defense ministry, diplomats said Friday, adding to concerns that Tehran was hiding activities aimed at making nuclear arms.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe diplomats, who demanded anonymity in exchange for revealing the confidential information, said the findings were preliminary and still had to be confirmed through other lab tests.<\/p>\n<p>\nInitially, they said the density of enrichment appeared to be close to or above the level used to make nuclear warheads. But later a well-placed diplomat accredited to the International Atomic Energy Agency said it was below that, although higher than the low-enriched material used to generate power and heading toward weapons-grade level.<\/p>\n<p>\nStill, they said, further analysis could show that the find matches others established to have come from abroad. The IAEA determined earlier traces of highly enriched uranium were imported on equipment from Pakistan that Iran bought on the black market during nearly two decades of clandestine activity discovered just over three years ago.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So now we have a more interesting and sudden problem.
