{"id":1742,"date":"2008-05-14T21:29:34","date_gmt":"2008-05-14T21:29:34","guid":{"rendered":"0"},"modified":"2008-05-14T21:31:35","modified_gmt":"2008-05-14T21:31:35","slug":"the_atlantic_an","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marcdanziger.com\/?p=1742","title":{"rendered":"The Atlantic Annoys Me Yet Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m a believer that the current US higher-education system is dysfunctional, and that it is at some level a Ponzi scheme that creates PhD&#8217;s who then get teaching jobs, and ever-expand university-level education because more PhD&#8217;s are minted than there are seats for them. This happens in concert with the devaluing &#8211; both economically and culturally &#8211; the craft work done by people who typically haven&#8217;t had college degrees as a gateway to their careers.<\/p>\n<p>So I was happy to see an article on this &#8211; &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/doc\/200806\/college\" target=\"browser\">In the Basement of the Ivory Tower<\/a>,&#8217; subtitled &#8216;The idea that a university education is for everyone is a destructive myth.
