{"id":1884,"date":"2008-09-12T05:02:43","date_gmt":"2008-09-12T05:02:43","guid":{"rendered":"0"},"modified":"2008-09-12T05:04:44","modified_gmt":"2008-09-12T05:04:44","slug":"obama_kaus_star","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marcdanziger.com\/?p=1884","title":{"rendered":"Obama, Kaus, Starbucks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So fellow turncoat Democrat (hey, we just don&#8217;t believe in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/id\/2136045\/&#038;#breakoutmeme\" target=\"browser\">deceptive memes<\/a>, bubba) Kaus points me to author Ron Rosenbaum&#8217;s piece over at Pajamas, where he <a href=\"http:\/\/pajamasmedia.com\/ronrosenbaum\/2008\/09\/11\/the-line-of-attack-obama-should-take\/\" target=\"browser\">actually gives some damn good advice<\/a> to Obama (not as good as mine, I&#8217;ll argue). But then Rosenbaum goes on to <a href=\"http:\/\/pajamasmedia.com\/ronrosenbaum\/2008\/09\/06\/why-starbucks-was-failing-and-how-its-getting-worse\/\" target=\"browser\">slag Starbucks<\/a> in the post just below.Now, I&#8217;ve never drunk a cup of coffee in &#8211; well, a long time. I&#8217;d sip them when I was younger and dating and dates would suggest that the only reason why I didn&#8217;t like coffee was because I hadn&#8217;t tasted theirs &#8211; which always seemed like an invitation to an early breakfast, if you know what I mean.<\/p>\n<p>Coffee sucks. Fully. Mark Helprin got it right in his great book &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Memoir-Antproof-Case-Mark-Helprin\/dp\/0156032007\/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&#038;s=books&#038;qid=1221192078&#038;sr=1-4\" target=\"browser\">Memoirs From An Ant-Proof Case<\/a>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<p>But, strangely, Starbucks does not suck.<\/p>\n<p>What, you might ask, does a non-coffee-drinker see in Starbucks? And I&#8217;ll tell you. Go to the counter and order this: Nonfat cocoa, no vanilla, no whip. Just that: pure, hot, almost bitter chocolate. Damn, it&#8217;s good.
