{"id":2093,"date":"2009-06-16T17:44:08","date_gmt":"2009-06-16T17:44:08","guid":{"rendered":"0"},"modified":"2009-06-16T20:20:14","modified_gmt":"2009-06-16T20:20:14","slug":"maybe_matt_took","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marcdanziger.com\/?p=2093","title":{"rendered":"Maybe Matt Took Pottery At Harvard (Instead Of US History)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\nSo Memorandum leads me to a post by my favorite whipping post, Matt Yglesias, in which matt is shocked &#8211; SHOCKED &#8211; to discover that a) <a href=\"http:\/\/yglesias.thinkprogress.org\/archives\/2009\/06\/democracy-in-america.php\" target=\"browser\">Senators do not represent equal populations<\/a>, and b) <a href=\"http:\/\/yglesias.thinkprogress.org\/archives\/2009\/06\/the-limits-of-political-capital.php\" target=\"browser\">that the U.S. Senate presents a meaningful check to the U.S. President&#8217;s power in setting domestic policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, while I&#8217;m always amused when he gets the vapors, I&#8217;m especially amused since I finished a history section with my 12 year old going over pretty much exactly this ground about 6 months ago. And he&#8217;s at a free public middle school in an upper-middle class neighborhood, not an undergraduate at Harvard. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.outsidethebeltway.com\/archives\/great_compromise_not_so_great\/\" target=\"browser\">James Joyner seems to have a similar reaction<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>So if Matt would like to get some reading recommendations &#8211; like, say, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.proconstitution.com\/republic\/madison_federalist_10.php\" target=\"browser\">Federalist #10<\/a> &#8211; I&#8217;d be happy to oblige.
