{"id":307,"date":"2004-01-16T18:39:22","date_gmt":"2004-01-16T18:39:22","guid":{"rendered":"0"},"modified":"2006-09-28T12:08:27","modified_gmt":"2006-09-28T12:08:27","slug":"on_jan_21st_spirit_of_america_needs_you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marcdanziger.com\/?p=307","title":{"rendered":"On Jan. 21st, Spirit of America Needs YOU!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been working to point people to Jim Hake of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spiritofamerica.net\" target=\"browser\">www.spiritofamerica.net<\/a>, who is working &#8211; among other things, on putting together some materiel for a Marine division headed back to Iraq to hand out to Iraqi civilians. So far he&#8217;s gathered mostly school supplies, low-level medical equipment, and some toys. <\/p>\n<p>The first $50,000 worth is going to be delivered to Camp Pendleton here in Southern California next Wednesday, January 21st. He needs about 40 volunteers to help unload and assemble this stuff, which the Marines will put into a shipping container and take with them. <\/p>\n<p>So if there&#8217;s a chance that you can spend Wed. at Camp Pendleton, it&#8217;d be hugely helpful. Here are the details:<b>MEET AT 9:00AM<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Take the Camp Pendleton Exit on Rt. 5 just north of Oceanside.  Volunteers will meet at the main gate parking lot no later than 9:00 a.m. to be escorted to the event.<\/p>\n<p><b>WORK INVOLVED<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Volunteers will be:<\/p>\n<p>* Assembling school supply kits, putting pencils, pens and notebooks in tote bags<br \/>\n* Assembling medical supply bags, putting sm. equipment and supplies in bags and boxes.<br \/>\n* Moving boxes into containers.<\/p>\n<p>People who can&#8217;t lift things won&#8217;t have to.<\/p>\n<p><b>TIME COMMITMENT<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Volunteers should be prepared to help until 1:00 pm. If possible, we may need them longer.
