{"id":655,"date":"2004-12-24T00:57:51","date_gmt":"2004-12-24T00:57:51","guid":{"rendered":"0"},"modified":"2006-09-28T12:08:56","modified_gmt":"2006-09-28T12:08:56","slug":"christmas_vatic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marcdanziger.com\/?p=655","title":{"rendered":"Christmas Vatican-blogging"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I see that Patrick Belton is in Rome, and <a href=\"http:\/\/oxblog.blogspot.com\/2004_12_19_oxblog_archive.html#110365831091886638\" target=\"browser\">blogging<\/a> his visits to the Vatican.<\/p>\n<p>TG and I went to Rome at the conclusion of a motorcycle trip a few years ago (and no, we didn&#8217;t ride in Rome &#8211; do I look suicidal?).<\/p>\n<p>We spent a day at the Vatican, which was amazing. But amazing as it was, the highlight was the tour we didn&#8217;t get to take, and the verbal smacking I got when I tried to get us there.<br \/>\nThe &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.catacombsociety.org\/visiting_necropolis.html\" target=\"browser\">scavi<\/a>&#8216; (excavations) beneath St. Peter&#8217;s are supposedly amazing. I say supposedly because I didn&#8217;t find out about them until we are in Rome, at the Vatican. When we found out about them, I went to the &#8216;office of the scavi&#8217; and asked about getting onto a tour that day, in either French or English.<\/p>\n<p>The priest laughed at me. I didn&#8217;t think they were allowed to do that&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/doc\/200310\/mueller\" target=\"browser\">an article in The Atlantic<\/a> about some of the controversies and politics around the excavations. reading it makes me want to go more than ever.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We spent a day at the Vatican, which was amazing.
