{"id":751,"date":"2005-03-14T16:21:20","date_gmt":"2005-03-14T16:21:20","guid":{"rendered":"0"},"modified":"2006-09-28T12:09:04","modified_gmt":"2006-09-28T12:09:04","slug":"the_era_of_the","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marcdanziger.com\/?p=751","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;The Era Of The Armed Liberal&#8217;&#8230; Nice Ring To It, Don&#8217;t You Think?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Austin Bay (disclosure &#8211; we&#8217;ve been talking about some stuff lately) nails it with <a href=\"http:\/\/austinbay.net\/blog\/index.php?p=143\" target=\"browser\">this post<\/a> about the future of the Democratic Party, something I&#8217;ve mused about recently while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.windsofchange.net\/archives\/006491.php\">re-reading Theodore Lowi<\/a> and via calls for a new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.windsofchange.net\/archives\/005843.php\">set of theses to guide a Democratic Reformation<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>Mr. Judis\u2019 national upheaval has already occurred\u2014we call it 9\/11.<\/p>\n<p>\n9\/11 marked the end of multi-cultural nostrums dear to the Democrat\u2019s hard left. It marked the end of welfare states as we know them \u2013now the strategic game\u2019s either globalize or die. The \u201cdie option\u201d bifurcates: either shrink and die slowly, or submit to a fascist tyranny with borders closed by violence.<\/p>\n<p>\n9\/11 also marked the end of Vietnam as a political syndrome. Defeatism, cynicism, and anti-military anger don&#8217;t sell.<\/p>\n<p>\nWe have entered the Era of the Armed Liberal. The smartest Democrats know this. The next successful Democratic charge will ride a Truman-Jackson \u201cdefense Democrat\u201d horse\u2014and the candidate will be a populist. The candidate (he? she?) will damn the Republicans for fiscal irresponsibility.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/austinbay.net\/blog\/index.php?p=143\">Read it all<\/a>. And we will chap their Republican asses about the trainwreck their policies represent for the vast majority of people in this country &#8211; the non-asset owning classes who live from paycheck to paycheck.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>9\/11 weill prove to be the seismic event that changes the Democratic Party.
