{"id":778,"date":"2005-04-29T23:35:45","date_gmt":"2005-04-29T23:35:45","guid":{"rendered":"0"},"modified":"2006-09-28T12:09:07","modified_gmt":"2006-09-28T12:09:07","slug":"mo_nctc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marcdanziger.com\/?p=778","title":{"rendered":"Mo&#8217; NCTC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So I had a long and boring conference call today, and I&#8217;ve got a cold so I&#8217;m too wooly-headed to do creative work, so I sat and manually extracted data from the much- (and well-) maligned &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tkb.org\/documents\/Downloads\/NCTC_Report.pdf\" target=\"browser\">Chronology of Significant Terrorism 2004<\/a>.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve just done January and February (if other folks want to pitch in and do a month and add it to comments, that&#8217;d be great&#8230;I&#8217;ll update as things evolve), and here&#8217;s the summary:<\/p>\n<p>69 terrorist acts, which killed 244 and injured 735.<\/p>\n<p>But &#8230; 62% of the acts were in India, as were 20% of the dead and 22% of the injured. 16% of the acts were in Iraq, with 51% of the dead and 31% of the injured.<\/p>\n<p>This means that 78% &#8211; almost 4 in 5 &#8211; of the terrorist acts in the study were in two countries (actually, in one district of a country, and a country at war). I&#8217;ll pull some more data together and then start drawing some conclusions &#8211; although it may be that they draw themselves. <\/p>\n<p>A summary table is below the fold.
