D-Day

I didn’t put anything up today to commemorate D-Day, because I assumed one of the others would; I’m sure the entire team did the same thing. So I’ll jump in.

Today, the Allied nations took a risk that changed the world. They faced a frightening world that promised struggle, loss, and death to all of Europe and Asia. They took that bleak promise, conquered it, and created the most free and prosperous era in human history.

One of the discoveries we’ve made in the last year or so is that our world is no less challenging; now we need to show that we, too, can rise to the occasion.

Supporting Veterans is one way; sadly the current Administration seems to see it differently.

Someone ought to do something about that.

JK UPDATES: Correct diagnosis of what was going on. Glad A.L. stepped in. In addition:

  • CPO Sparkey has a post of his own about D-Day, including Eisenhower’s pre-battle address to the troops.

  • LaughingWolf has his own post, also worth a read.

    1. I’m a little reluctant to bravely hoist the “What Liberal Media?” flag, but you have to wonder where the coverage is, and where it would have been four years ago.

I figure the reason there’s no huge controversy about this is that the majority of career active duty military personnel aren’t aware that it’s happening.

      Now why is that?

    2. Something I’ve learned from the Navy: “If it ain’t in print, it ain’t gonna happen.”

In fact, when we join up, we don’t sign a contract, though I don’t know the term, it’s not a contract. We agree to do what our leadership tells us with respect to rules and regulations, but we are not guaranteed to get anything in return (not even wages). If there’s one organization that needs help in telling the truth, it’s the military recruiters. Yes, I know, I’m painting the good as well as the bad, but I think the good are in the minority.

Now with that, am I upset I joined? Nope, I’ve enjoyed… well most of it, plus I get the great feeling that I’m contributing something to our society.
