I mentioned Pierre Rehov’s film “Suicide Killers” a while ago when I talked about ‘Violence, Suicide, and Bad Philosophy‘.
Well the film is in a short-run theatrical release in New York and here in Los Angeles at the Laemmle Grand in downtown Los Angeles…
And there’s no way I’m going to miss it. The first time I can go see it is Monday night.
It’s playing at 5:45, at a pretty inconvenient time. But I’ll make it – and I’ll extend an invitation to Los Angeles area readers to come see it with me, and then go out for dinner and a discussion afterwards.
So if you’re interested, just show up at the Laemmle Grand, at 345 S. Figueroa St. at the corner of 3rd Street (in the Sheraton complex). We’ll probably go have dinner afterward at Cuidad down the street, so you may want to go park there.
I get it…you’re trying to define yourself by your taste in culture and art.
Nice try, Mo Fo.
Andy, if you’re going to be a blog stalker, you’ve got to be interesting or witty. Or make sense…please pick one.
A.L.
I’ll be there. How can I recognize you, a white sport coat and a pink carnation? 😉
Apparently Andy is trying to define himself through his taste for White Suburban Punk Ebonics, not unlike Dr. Deborah Frisch.
It doesn’t suprise me that this film was made by a Frenchman. If France supplies more than its share of the world’s idiocy, it also supplies some of the most forthright voices of dissent. I wish more people in this country would speak up as clearly as Andre Glucksman and Pascal Bruckner have.
A.L.,
the “Mo Fo” wasn’t hip enough for you? Didn’t do much for me either frankly. Don’t keep him around for my amusement …
I havent heard the term ‘mo fo’ in ten years… and that was from a 12 year old.
Achillea – look for the dark-skinned guy in a polo shirt with the Asian wife…I’ll be there about 5:30.
A.L.
Well, if you’re going to see it and have a discussion, don’t leave the rest of us out. At least post some of those observations too. I’m almost positive that film won’t end up in Alabama. 🙂
We don’t think it’ll ever be put out on DVD?
I just question how seriously to take these intellectual efforts at “understanding the other”.
There was something on PBS last night about Muslim women. I watched bits and pieces of it during commercials on the other program I was watching at the same time. It seemed to focus inordinately on the dumb scarf/hijab, and the parts I saw said absolutely nothing about sexual abuse, slavery, female genital mutilation or the other severe effects of being a Muslim and a woman.
I quit watching when this intensely severe young lady was maundering on about how scared wearing her hijab in public made her, given the great number of “backlash” attacks on Muslims after 9/11 including “many murders”. Erm? Either this bimbo has had her brain washed even worse than a bad fashion statement would suggest, or she’s a CAIR mouthpiece deliberately spreading disinformation.
Then, when you have a combination of both a FRENCH movie-maker *and* a bunch of Muslim terrorist youth looking to make a name for themselves … well, it would be VERY hard for me to suspend my disbelief and believe a word of it.
Increasingly it appears to me that the simplistic idea of “kill them all and let God sort out the innocent and guilty ones” might end up being the necessary thing to do.

I’ll be the 6′ woman in the black tunic and blue jeans.
