This is really depressing…from Consumerist:
If you’re a fan of those pink and white frosted Circus Animal cookies from Mother’s, either stock up or start priming your nostalgia, because this week the company closed its doors abruptly. They’ve cited the expected reasons – the rising cost of raw materials, and an inability to borrow in the frozen credit market.
Those cookies are wonderful in a kind of disgusting way. I’m running by the store tonight…
Did you get some? I remember them too, and your post inspired me to blog it too and note the changes in Mothers ownership over the years, as described in the linked SFgate story. It’s interesting/amusing/odd(?) that there’s even a Parmalat connection.
I may join you in heading to my local stores to seek remaining inventory, even though I haven’t had any in years. If you get some, I hope you can post whether the cookies still have tasty trans fats in the ingredient listing. My memory is that they used to, but I haven’t checked since the trans fat was taken out of everything else.
Hmm. I sense a market. Anyone want to cook up a business plan for an import company marketing “TASTY TRANS FATS. Not to be taken internally [Nudge nudge wink wink].”?
