Donovan Janus, founder of Exposure Manager and the Netherlands’ gift to technology, has started a blog, ‘The Flying Kiwi.’
His latest post is a look at the aftermath of the second ideological murder in a year in the Netherlands; the assassination of Theo Van Gogh.
I’m concerned that the use of the term ideological in this context may be obscuring what needs to be exposed. What appears to be emerging in the case is that although Van Gogh’s murderers do espouse a social-political system, he was not murdered for social or political reasons. I’m not writing this to be argumentative and I’m trying rather desperately not to be offensive.
Were the motivations for the murder religious?
Well, it’s important not to jump too far onto the Isle of Conclusion, but since his killer was associated with Jihadis, and he ‘slandered’ Islam, it’s reasonable to assume that’s why they killed him – as opposed to a street robbery, personal conflict, etc.
And to the extent you want to drive a distinction between social-political and religious, you;ll have a hard time, given that the Jihandis don’t see such a distinction.
