Colby Buzzell’s blog ‘My War‘ was one of the most amazing blog reads in its all-too-brief life.
He’s gone pro, with a chapter of his new book in Esquire this month (gotta get to the store), but I still check the RSS from his blog.
Today, he copies an email from his ex-Battalion Commander.
Go read it .
Zowie.
But I thought CBTW was U.S. Army. What’s all this “Service of the Queen” stuff?
Kipling reference, would be my guess. In the short story “Servants of the Queen”, some service animals (a cavalry horse, a baggage camel, some gun battery mules, and an elephant, among others) sat around talking about war, fear, honor… and duty. Kipling wrote a lot about the military and soldiers, and a lot of it still resonates, a hundred years later and in another Army all together.
Hey Armed Liberal, I know you’re busy, but you might have noticed that Colby’s post, “In the Service of the Queen” is nearly five months old. That was his last post before going into hiatus to write his book.
