Looking At My Watch

Right about now, Biggest Guy is signing the paperwork to join the Air Force ROTC. As I understand it (looks like I probably won’t see the docs until they’re signed), he’s one step away from the six-year commitment – apparently ten if you’re pilot-trained.

But he’s all happy about the fact that out of the 2002 class, 22 UVA grads applied for pilot training slots and 21 got them.

And if he’s happy, I guess I ought to be too.

But I’m still kinda anxious about the whole thing…

  1. Para-Rescue, here we come. I’m sure he’s a little bit anxious too, because he’s just taken the first step in a process that will truly test his limits.

I wish him all the best.

  2. Welcome to the club! and congratulations.

We feel pride that our kids have learned values and are willing to be personally committed, but there’s that niggling knowledge in the back of our minds that what they’re doing is dangerous. Still, we have to put on a brave face and show them how confident we are in them. Sigh.

  3. I’m confident in them, it’s my tail-end boomer/Gen X generation I’m not confident about.

    We’ve been on a 40-year party.
