Road Trip!!

I’ll be in New York from Tuesday to Thursday of next week, then in Washington (hopefully meeting Scott of Demosophia) and Charlottesville until Sunday.

I hear rumors that the serve alcohol on the East Coast, and that you, oddly enough, serve pizza without goat cheese and BBQ chicken on it.

Drop a note if you know of such a place to be found in my travels.

  1. Well, I’d say every corner in the City of Brotherly Love, but even if you drove from NYC south, you’d probably never touch Pennsylvania soil (the interstate system, as it was constructed, I think is a favor to all the Northeasterners who are a little uncomfortable with the idea of having to be in what is basically a midwestern/southern state–even if Philadelphia doesn’t show it).

That’s both the good and the bad thing about Philadelphia, nobody ever just drops by, it’s out of their way, so they call.

  2. Hi, A.L.,

When you’re here in Charlottesville, do not miss Mr. Jefferson’s architectural materpiece, The Lawn (the central campus of UVa).

  3. For good pizza in New York City, try John’s on Bleeker Street in Greenwich Village or Grimaldi’s on Fulton Landing in Brooklyn Heights. Mushrooms & sausage make wonderful toppings! Enjoy!

  4. Sylvia’s in Cville has great pizza. Some with goat cheese and I’m sure some with chicken. I don’t know if it’s together though. Cafe Europa (Greek food) is really wonderful as well. They have this amazing tomato basil soup. There are bars in that area as well (The Corner and the Downtown Mall).

  5. If you have a few minutes, there’s a site called Chowhound… http://www.chowhound.com Focusing on all gustatorial pleasures, particularly in NYC, the site has had a number of Pizza Crawls to find the BEST. My suggestion, and the place that I’ve had the pleasure of knowing since childhood, is Ultimate Pizza on 1st Avenue between 57th & 58th Streets. The beef slices are KILLER!

Cheers and have a blast in NYC!

  6. For beers, try the Peculiar Pub on Bleeker Street. Possibly the largest selection of beers (on tap, 10 and bottled, 200) anywhere in the NYC area.
