  1. Kipling reference, would be my guess. In the short story “Servants of the Queen”, some service animals (a cavalry horse, a baggage camel, some gun battery mules, and an elephant, among others) sat around talking about war, fear, honor… and duty. Kipling wrote a lot about the military and soldiers, and a lot of it still resonates, a hundred years later and in another Army all together.
