ANOTHER QUOTE

That last one seemed a little…I donno, serious, so I thought I’d balance things out with one of my favorite quotes from another of my teachers, Clint Smith, of Thunder Ranch:
“If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. ThatÂ’s ridiculous. If I have a gun, what in the hell do I have to be paranoid about?”

Um…The guy behind you with his gun to your head? A guy with a sniper rifle? A tank?Artillery?Running out of ammo?Kevlar?Stinging insects?Cometary impact? The Guv’mint (an exercise in militia-finding I leave to any number of Google searches)?Nice quote, but about as accurate as Heinlein’s “an armed society is a polite society” quote.

Even assuming the person was paranoid before purchasing the gun (a questionable assumption), there is no reason to assume he “has to be paranoid” after the gun is in his possession.

That’s a nice quote, but I think it’s misleading. Owning a gun can be a legitimate sign of paranoia, for example. And anyone who owns a gun and has seen one used knows he/she has to be paranoid about the OTHER guy and HIS gun.
